Refurbishment and ground floor rear extension to an Edwardian terrace house in Chingford, to provide a growing family with an improved kitchen, dining and living area connected to the rear garden. The north facing extension looks to maximise internal daylight levels, whilst retaining privacy from surrounding properties by introducing high clerestory windows, large strategically placed roof lights and a fully glazed external courtyard nestled within the centre of the development.
The exposed timber roof structure and timber framed courtyard will provide a warming internal atmosphere that complements the striking charred timber external cladding.

This ground floor Warner maisonette in Walthamstow has been refurbished to make the most of the 51sqm floor space. Bespoke birch plywood storage and display elements were introduced throughout to showcase the clients books, pictures, plants and objects. These elements animate the newly decorated bright rooms with flashes of colour and personality. The wood burning stove in the the living room takes pride of place on a beautifully cast in situ polished concrete hearth.

Darsena Basin
Milan
Milan has developed a unique urban and architectural condition which wraps and protects central spaces from exterior influences and threats. The scale of seclusion varies from the monumental perimeter wall defences and gates which have prescribed the city limits throughout history to the smaller territories of individual buildings. Access to these central spaces is limited to designated points along these lines of separation. These threshold spaces represent unique moments of permeability and splendour where these two conditions converge and allow one to journey to its centre.
The existing municipal market at Porta Ticinese and the abandoned Darsena basin is one such significant space that has lost its urban role within modern Milan. The proposed open air market structures draw the city in from all sides and each structure responds to its unique historical ground conditions of the Darsena basin, historic wall and public square. Located amongst the market structures are residential and commercial blocks which frame views and guide passage though a recharged urban environment that re-establishes layers of permeability and a richness of space.
The apartment buildings themselves play on this notion of permeability, with a series of transitional spaces that signify the journey from the public, urban area, to the private seclusion of your home.
